Hike for Heat

Operated by: TerraMar Adventures

Event Leader: Carl

Wissahickon Gorge

Philadelphia, PA 19131

Join us as TerraMar's Guides lead you up and down some of Philly's favorite hiking trails. To commemorate Thanksgiving, we will be giving back by sponsoring a hike to collect gently used coats and new socks for the homeless from Philadelphia and Camden.

What do you need to do? Rummage through your closet and try to find gently used coat(s) you are willing to part with. Don't feel bad if you don't have any because we could also use a donation of new pack of socks, hand sanitizer, chap sticks, hats or gloves.

Price: Free with Donation.

Skill Level: 4, there are a few strenuous parts. But, overall not extremely difficult. Description: Do you love hiking? Do you want to preemptively hike off some of those holiday pies? Lets get together and hike to help the homeless.

We are going to my dog Strider's favorite hiking spot, the Wissahickon Gorge. Philadelphia's Fairmont Park, at 8,700-acre, is the biggest urban park in the country. In northwestern Philadelphia, the Park traverses seven miles along the Wissahickon Creek Gorge.

This 1,800 acre tract is known nation wide as one of the best mountain biking and offers hikers the rare combination of Philadelphia's history and the historical significance along with the majestic natural beauty of the Wissahickon Gorge. Bring your camera and join us for a great hike right here in our back yard.

Though in the city, we will find ourselves hiking through the forest along the broad-flowing Wissahickon Creek complete with scenic outcrops, historic stone bridges, ruins that date to the 1700s, and a battle site from the American Revolution.

It's amazing that this place is right here in our city. Let's take advantage of this great opportunity.

Clothing and Equipment: Hiking boots, sun block, rain gear, and water bottle. Dress for the weather.

Directions: Directions will be sent to all registrants.
