Fall Foliage Series - Bake Oven Knob

Leighigh Furnace, PA 0
As much as I hate to admit it, summer is drawing to a close. But, that means some of the best hiking weather of the year is just around the corner. Cooler temps, sunny skies and brightly turning leaves means this is the time to get out! So, we are offering a fall foliage series this October to the best vistas in Eastern PA. Do not miss out. I think this will sell out quick.
This hike ascending Blue Mountain to Bake Oven Knob is one of the more scenic in the state, beginning in the valley near the tiny village of Lehigh Furnace, we will attack the ridge directly, following the Appalachia trail four miles up through dense forests until finally assaulting some of the rockiest terrain the trail has to offer.
This hike is not appropriate for dogs or small children, as the boulder climbing can be challenging to unsure feet. But, the effort is worth it. This hike has gorgeous views, wide open sky, and plenty of boulders to scramble over! You can spend all day on this trail and not see another person, and never get sick of the countryside panorama. A great way to spend a fall day! Pack your lunch, we will picnic at the summit before wandering back down to our cars.
Difficulty: 5 – some solid incline and light bouldering.
Equipment: Sturdy shoes, water bottle/camelback, raingear/windgear, layers. Dress for the weather!
Fall Foliage Series -
*Obviously, foliage is not guaranteed. We try to time this for the color. But, weather and storms will have a lot to do with what we see.
