Following such an immense response to our first four aerial yoga workshops (they have all sold out!), we are pleased to post another gem in our aerial yoga series! This 2 Hour Aerial Yoga Workshop - Core Strength & Partner Flying will give you a taste of a whole new aerial yoga flavor, so it is perfect for our lucky members who participated in our previous aerial workshops, as well as those who missed out and will be joining us for the first time. In the Aerial Yoga Core and Partner Flying Workshop, expect to learn fun tricks in the hammock, hold and move your own body weight in the air, connect with and build deep core strength, and have a ton of fun! All levels are welcome and modifications will be offered for all.
This fun yoga workshop will take our inner yogis to a more playful side, all while getting a great core-strengthening work out. This is a great way to kickstart your Spring and get your body bathing suit ready. :) This is the perfect opportunity to add challenge to traditional poses as well as work your way into advanced poses that seemed impossible before. This workshop is being offered at an especially low price in conjunction with Philadelphia's brand new Kaya Wellness and Yoga, a studio specializing in both 'terrestrial' and 'aerial' forms of yoga.
VaihAyasa is Sanskrit for “being or moving in the air, suspended in the air, sky-dwellers,” so it an appropriate name for VaihAyasa Aerial Yoga, which combines the fun and playfulness of being aerial, with the more grounding and alignment-centered details of a yogic aerial practice. It allows practitioners to sink into their poses more quickly, to deepen stretches, to find proper alignment naturally, and to reap the benefits of inversions without strain on the joints of the body. In VaihAyasa Aerial Yoga a soft fabric hammock, supporting up to 1000 lbs, suspended a few feet off the ground, is used to move through traditional and non-traditional Hatha Yoga poses. Used as a prop, the hammock assists alignment, deepens awareness and provides immediate benefits of spinal decompression. Absense of compression to the joints and spine can help achieve proper posture and alignment through relaxation rather than effort, therefore finding a more balanced and unencumbered expression of each pose. While some Aerial Yoga postures are geared at helping students better understand the proper alignment of traditional Yoga postures, others are meant to help students achieve advanced traditional Yoga postures which may not otherwise be available to a student. In a typical class, students will move through the same basic elements of a floor practice (pranayama, asanas, savasana), except they will be elevated or using the fabric for alignment.
For this 2 HOUR workshop, a leading instructor of Philadelphia's brand new Kaya Wellness and Yoga will guide us through an aerial exploration of two new and fun components of aerial yoga: core strength and partner flying! This workshop is both fitness and fun intensive and will help you build amazing upper body and core strength in addition to increasing your overall awareness of body alignment. Using techniques from yoga and aerial arts, this intensive workshop is empowering and fun!
This workshop will (literally) fly by as you experience fun hammock-assisted twists on traditional yoga poses, explore the challenges of aerial balance and awareness of body mechanics, and enjoy the mental and physical levity of being supported a few feet in the air. In addition to all of the positive effects of yoga, you are guaranteed to find yourself smiling throughout this workshop because it is so much fun!
Just a few of the benefits of Aerial Yoga include:
-Move more fluidly
-Attain proper alignment naturally
-Decompress the neck & spine
-Less pressure on hands, neck, shoulders & joints
-Achieve more advanced postures while being supported
-Allows gravity to deepen stretches

-Enhance, deepen, & advance your floor practice
-Have fun while you Strengthen & Lengthen
How Do I Prepare for an Aerial Yoga Class? Feel free to bring a yoga mat, but it is not required. Wear a shirt that covers your underarms completely. Bring a large towel or thick sweatshirt for padding in case you find the fabric uncomfortable. Do not use lotion before class, wear jewelry, belts, or clothing with grommets, gems, or anything that could potentially snag the fabric, avoid lose shorts or very baggy clothing. Also long/torn finger and toenails can snag to fabric. Eating or drinking is never recommended before yoga, but it is particularly important to avoid acidic foods/liquids an hour prior to an Aerial yoga class. Bring water for hydration. NOTE: Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before class to allow time for any paperwork needed.
