Horses and Tubing!
Operated by: TerraMar Adventures
Event Leader: Sarah
Brandywine area
This is a full day of lazy summer fun with two of my favorite things: Horses and river tubing!!
We'll start our morning at one of the most prestigious equestrian institutions in the country. This isn't just your basic trail ride...
Horsemanship Instruction & Riding Lesson
We'll have experts in horsemanship and horse psychology give us an illuminating introduction to the physiology and psychology of the horse, the basics of horsemanship, grooming, tack, and riding. Then we'll get a hands-on lesson in proper leading and riding form in their world-class ring, and practice what we've learned.
Trail Ride
Once we're well-versed in our new horse expertise, it's onto the trails! We'll saddle up for an hour and a half of fabulous, relaxing riding through the lush Brandywine river valley on some of the same amazing horses that show and compete regularly at these stables and around the country! This is one of the prettiest trail rides you can do in this area, on some of the best animals around, with talented folks certified by the Horseman's Safety Association. Top notch!
After a morning of horses, we'll grab a quick lunch, and then...
River Tubing!
... it's into the river we go! We'll be spending the lazy late afternoon hours floating down the Brandywine river in inner tubes!! The Brandywine is wide and cool and banked by deep, breezy forest with plenty of sun and just enough river current to keep us moving. It'll take us about 2 hours to complete our trek, at which point you'll be so relaxed you'll want to go straight home for a nap!
Price includes: Horsemanship instruction, riding/leading lesson, 1.5hr trail ride with all guides and equipment, 2+ hours of tubing, river tube rental, transit to/from the river, all logistics, guide trained in CPR and Wilderness First Aid, Survival, and Search & Rescue, snacks, and water.
Difficulty: 3 - You must know how to swim in order to do the tubing bit, but otherwise this is a pretty difficulty-free event!
Equipment:
- Closed-toed shoes and long, sturdy pants (like jeans) for the morning
- Clothes to get wet in while we're in the river!
- A towel and change of clothes for AFTER the river
- Sunblock and possibly a hat, since we'll likely get plenty of rays between the ride and the river
- Lunch (packed, or money for lunch if you want to go out)
Keep in mind: Since we'll have only about an hour in between the horses and the tubing, be aware of how what you have for lunch will impact you in the water! Some of us can eat a burger and then jump right in, but some will need to be more careful if they'll be floating at all within a few hours of eating anything. So just bear in mind how your stomach reacts, and plan accordingly.
Weight: They have Eagles players that ride there, so they'll have a horse for pretty much any weight! I just need to know if you're over 200lbs so we know how many of the bigger horses we'll need.
