Did you know that Philadelphia has 36,000 bicycle commuters and that up to 600 bicyclists cross the Schuylkill River bridges during the evening rush? Philly's always been a great place for cycling and we've got one of the strongest bicycle advocacy groups to thank for much of what we've seen in the way of bike lanes, fund raising, and general cycling awareness. Our own Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (BCGP) has been instrumental in making our fair city a great place to ride a bike.
Details: We've teamed up with the BCGP to offer two of their educational clinics to help you learn more about how to ride safely and be self-sufficient on your bike. We'll send the location out to paid participants, but this event will take place in Philadelphia.
Urban Riding Basics: Does biking in the city make you nervous? Are you not quite sure what the rules of the road are, or how to ride safely? This class focuses on the basic safety details each rider needs to know before hopping on a bike. Ambassadors will review fitting a bike and helmet, what to wear, how to pack, the rules of the road, locking your bike secrely and much more. Participants do not need to bring bicycles.
Fix-A-Flat Clinic: Every cyclist remembers the first time they got a flat tire, and the panic that ensues. And you want to do your best to be prepared for it! One of the most useful maintenance skills to develop once you decide to ride is how to fix your own flat tire. Flats happen and it is less expensive and faster to change your own. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bicycles but it is not required.
Payment: To get an accurate headcount, we require that you pay in advance to secure a spot in the classes. The $5 fee covers both classes, our administrative costs, snacks, and water. We've added an option for you to donate another $5 to the BCGP. They cannot make any of their plans come true without the support of riders in the area, and would love your support!
