IMPORTANT NOTE: This class is for people with rock climbing experience only. As a prerequisite, you must have climbed before and be belay certified at any local climbing gym or equivalent. i.e. you must be able to put on a harness, tie a figure eight, and belay. You need to have your own gear.

Details: Been climbing in the gym and want to learn to set up your own climbs outside? As a climber, one of the most exciting experiences I can remember is my first time setting up my own top rope climb outside, and climbing on it, and feeling completely safe. It's a big transition from climbing indoors, and that feeling of self-sufficiency is amazing!

This intermediate level course introduces you to the basic skills needed for safe and fun climbing on your own. We will work on developing skills necessary to safely set up top-rope climbs, including knots for webbing, using fixed anchors and trees, climbing area safety and more.

This course is instructionally intensive and a must for climbers wishing to confidently experience outdoor climbing on their own. This is not a day of guided outdoor climbing, it's a day for us to spend expanding our knowledge of the sport and learning to be self-sufficient setting top rope anchors outside. Our guides from the Philadelphia Rock Gyms will have anchor setting gear packages available (including slings, carabiners, etc.) at a discount for people who'd like to have their own gear to climb on after the class, price TBD.

Please note: We've got a lot to learn in a six hour period. This is truly an outdoor classroom experience, and we won't be spending time climbing, but learning how to set anchors and climb safely on our own outdoors.

Carpool: We'll start the class at Ralph Stover State Park at 9am and be finished by 3pm. There will be a carpool leaving from Philadelphia, details to be sent to paid members.
